about-alanAlan Committie has performed at the Stand Up South Africa Comedy Festival in London, UK (2002) – where he also performed his one man version of Richard III called Dick and Di to great acclaim.

This talented stand- up comedian was also part of all the Smirnoff International Comedy Festivals (Cape Town, Durban and Jo’burg) between 1997 and 2003!

In fact, ALAN IS THE ONLY PERFORMER TO HAS PERFORMED ON EVERY SINGLE DAY OF THIS FESTIVAL ACROSS THE COUNTRY BETWEEN 1997 AND 2003!

He also created, staged and hosted the Fugard Fest of Comedy at the Fugard Theatre in December of 2011 which saw a line up of Cape Town’s best comics on one bill for 3 weeks.

More recently, he has hosted the last three Vodacom Funny Festivals at the Baxter Theatre and is set to return in June of 2013!

For the last three years, this talented stand- up comic has been Defending the Caveman at theatres around the country to huge acclaim and even bigger houses!

Alan Committie took over this legendary one-man show and it has now been running in South Africa for the last 16 years. Alan, himself, has racked up over 680 performances!!

Awards

Numerously nominated through the years, Alan Committie has won three major awards. This talented stand- up comedian was the 2008 Fleur de Cap award winner for Best Actor as Rosencrantz in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.

As a multi talented comic and entertainer, Alan Committie also won a South African Film and Television Award (SAFTA) for best supporting actor 2007/2008 as Johan van der Walt in Laugh out Loud.

Alan was also the 2008 Naledi award winner for best comic performance in Stressed to Kill.

Television

Alan has executive produced, conceived and co-written the SABC sitcom Those Who Can’t which flighted in 2012. The second series is currently being negotiated for 2013.

He is also the lead and comedy material contributor to the Paul Slabolepszy sitcom Safe as Hausers which flights on SABC in late March of 2013.

Other work include his critically acclaimed six part comedy Van Der Walt’s Fault (MNET), which is available in a DVD box set. He was also the star of series 1-3 of MNET’s comedy hoax show, Laugh out Loud where he had a weekly rant in the guise of his alter ego: Johan van der Walt ! Alan also added his voice to the SABC animation series Urbo as multiple characters on many of the episodes.

Radio

With such controlled vocal talent, this comedian (stand- up comic), Master of Ceremonies and all round funny guy can be heard on various platforms. Alan Committie’s voice, comic character and quirky offbeat roles are recognisable on various radio stations across South Africa. He has also been the “unofficial” film reviewer for Nic Marais’ breakfast show on KFM where he is THE FILM WURM!
