Loveborgs Women

(Created by the Arena Theatre Company)

For the first time Alan Committie, Gaetan Schmid, Robyn Scott and Keren Tahor team up for the hilarious and wacky comedy Loveborg’s Women. This combination of talented actors promises to be a highlight on this year’s entertainment calendar.

Loveborg’s Women is merely a starting point for an hilarious look at twentieth century reactions to the theatre genres of realism and naturalism. Three of Lovborg’s heroines are considered in a wacky comedy of remorse, lust, jealousy and revenge. Geese, hens, earmuffs and geraniums are all part of this eloquent tapestry. Committie (Dick and Di, Titanic on Ice, Dracula); Schmid (Comical Tagedy, Dracula); Scott (Elizabeth , Almost by Chance A Woman, Leon Schuster’s Mr Bones) and Keren Tahor (Skin Tight, House of Usher) interpret scenes from Lovborg’s I Prefer to Yodel, While We Three Hemorrhage and Mellow Pears, spoofing realism and naturalism. Fast, furious and comical feats define a reconsideration of Lovborg’s women seen through the eyes of twentieth century practitioners such as Steven Berkoff, DV8 Physical Theatre and balletic animator Marlene Blom.

Raffiek Mammom, Cape Argus
“four strong performers…make magic on an intimate stage…witty as it is informative and as intelligent as it is zany…Alan Committie demonstrates the same litheness in accent and facial elasticity. He always reminds me of a shiny outer surface on the one hand and a glass of frothy effervescence on the other…”

Peter Tromp, Cape Times
“…Rocking good fun….Alan Committie, always a go-for-broke insane asylum contained in one person, is right at home doing this kind of material…”

Gillian Turner, The Tatler
“Fast paced, faultlessly delivered performances from four highly talented actors…”
